Academic Background
M.Sc., Chemistry, Moscow State University, Russian Federation
Ph.D., Chemistry, University of Toronto

I joined Chemistry Department in July of 2004 as a Materials Chemist.
I received my Master degree working with polymer liquid crystals under the supervision of Prof. Valery P. Shibaev at Moscow State University. During my Ph.D., I studied polymer and surfactant self-assembly and properties of macromolecules in confined geometries with Prof. Eugenia Kumacheva at the University of Toronto. Before joining Laurier in 2004, I spent several fruitful years with the Materials Chemistry group of Prof. Geoffrey Ozin at U of T, where I worked on the synthesis of well-defined monodisperse nanoparticles; their self-assembly for functional applications, and colloidal photonic crystals. My research resulted in the authoring and coauthoring of more than 50 publications in high-impact polymer and materials journals.
My current scientific interests include nanoparticles bearing chirality and their self-assembly into nanocomposites for applications in sensors and enantioselective catalysis. We are also interested in metallodielectric nanoparticles and composite materials for various optical applications. I am actively collaborating with several research groups and hold a visiting research professor position at the University of Toronto.
I presently teach several Materials Chemistry courses: CH240, CH440, Physical Organic Chemistry (CH306) and CH111/121.
