Applied Mathematics Option

The Applied Mathematics Option is available to honours students in any discipline. The primary focus is on methods commonly used in modern mathematical models in science, especially in relation to Kinesiology, Physics and Computing, Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. However, the option can also be tailored to meet the needs of other areas of study, where quantitative methodology is an important part of the program.

A specific set of courses that give the student a broad introduction to mathematical methods, and to the theory that underlies these methods, is required. The option also allows students the opportunity to explore areas involving more advanced models than normally encountered in an undergraduate program, through the MA360 and MA480* (or MA485) courses. Also, where appropriate, software commonly in use will be incorporated into the program of study.

Sample Courses

  • Differential Equations I
  • Introduction to Analysis
  • Multivariable Calculus
